As wine dinner guest of Wiesbaden gastronome Bernhard Lohenfels and his wife, prosecutor Bernd Reuther witnesses his host's brutal murder by a clumsy robber, who misses valuable loot while insisting on the near-empty safe and needn't resort to such risky violence. He coaches his team to check up both on the easily identified robber and possible other motives for a set-up by the widow or other guests, one of whom is meanwhile kidnapped.

Her daughter has just gone abroad for a school year when Anna's husband Rolf tells her that he wants a divorce. Anna, surprised and desperate, seeks refuge with her father Hannes. In her idyllic hometown, she meets her childhood sweetheart Nick again, whose wife took the life half a year ago. Nick's little daughter is so traumatized by this experience that she has not spoken out since. Anna cares lovingly for the child, and Anna and Nick come closer.
